Volunteers with Idaho fish and game clean up apples from Ashton neighborhoods to avoid attracting bears

Help IDF&G remove apples from yards around Ashton.

This is an excellent opportunity to help your neighbors and community prevent bears from wandering into town (yes, it does happen occasionally, even in downtown Ashton!). Good apples will be donated to the local food bank and bad apples will be given to the bears at Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center.

Volunteers should bring their own gloves, snacks, and water. Rakes and step-ladders are helpful tools for getting apples off the trees. This is also a great opportunity to get rid of some cardboard boxes.

Please spread this news to your neighbors around Ashton with apple trees!

Idaho Fish and Game is offering to help clean up fallen or still hanging apples to those that need assistance. Apple trees become an irresistible attractant for bears in the fall and can bring them into towns, where they would not cormally be seen. Help us keep both people and bears safe by removing these attractants from your yard and letting us help. To sign up or recommend a friend, please call the Upper Snake Regional Office (208) 525-7290
